Supporting your child at their own pace

Start with connection

Children communicate through words, play, gestures and behaviour. Spend a little time following your child's interests, without turning every interaction into a lesson.

Make everyday moments predictable

Simple routines and clear, calm language can help children know what comes next. Adjust expectations to your child's individual needs, and allow space for breaks.

Look for patterns

Notice what your child enjoys, what is difficult and when they seem overwhelmed. Share concrete examples with a qualified professional rather than relying on online checklists for a diagnosis.

Ask for an individual assessment

If you have concerns about communication, learning or behaviour, discuss them with a qualified clinician. A loss of previously acquired skills should be discussed promptly with your child's healthcare provider. Support should be tailored to the child, not based on a label alone.
